Custom Home & Remodel Architects

With KGA, your dream home can also be a dream project. That means we’re your guide and partner throughout our work together, so you can feel good about the design process from start to finish. From custom homes to reimagining your existing space — we love what we do and we love collaborating with our clients.

Custom Home Architectural Design Services

Whether you’re looking for a new custom home or to remodel your current space, architectural design sits at the heart of our work together. And because it’s such a big part of delivering the best design for each client, we want you to know you can count on KGA to listen, share honest feedback, and inspire you with possibilities that blend your vision with our experience.

The architectural design process is divided into four phases — programming, schematic design, design development and construction drawings. As your custom home architect, we’ll be your advocate and guide throughout each one.

We believe the success of any project depends on our relationship with our clients. That’s why we approach project management with an eye toward organization and proactive communication. Learn more about our approach to project management and what to expect when working with KGA.

Initial Site Visit Consultation

During the initial site visit we’ll familiarize ourselves with your property; that includes views, special features, and any other unique considerations for your project. And you probably have questions, too — the initial site visit is also an opportunity to ask us questions about your custom home site or remodel — whether you’ve purchased it yet or not. Either way, we’re happy to meet you there.

Design Charrettes

As part of the initial process, we often hold meetings, called design charrettes, with our clients. This is a collaborative effort where everyone involved, from clients to members of the design team, gets together in one place (in-person or virtually!) to discuss the home’s design. The magic here: ideas get sketched in real-time, everyone provides feedback, and then they’re sketched again. A charrette can be a fun, efficient way to get feedback from everyone involved in the span of a few hours.

Working with Builders

We encourage you to select and involve your builder early on in the process — building a home is a team sport, after all. The KGA team works with builders and homeowners in two primary ways: Design/Build or Design/Bid/Build.

  • Design/Build: This is a collaborative process where the builder is involved as early as possible.
  • Design/Bid/Build: This means the builder will be involved after the design is finished, and will be asked to bid on the project.

The method is up to you, and we’re happy to discuss the pros and cons of each as you make your decision.

As-Built Drawings

As-Built Drawings

For remodels, you’ll need a set of as-built drawings depicting the existing conditions of your home. If you don’t already have these, the KGA team will create a set of as-built plans for you.

Testimonials

We had our subcontractor walk through yesterday and one of the consistent comments was how detailed and clear the architectural plans were. Every subcontractor mentioned how easy it would be to bid and work off the plans. We wanted to pass that along to you and tell you how much we appreciated the time you put into our project. Thanks again for everything. We think the house is going to be great.

Thank you so much for sharing your amazing design ideas and responding to our requests so quickly. It has been a pleasure working with you and look forward to working with you in the future. There may be some small changes but what we have created together is amazing. This lot deserves something as stunning as this!

We engaged KGA on a small interior remodel of the home I have lived in with my wife and family for the last 30 years. A very traditional brick home with low ceilings. The attraction has always been the ½ acre lot and view of the mountains. While the remodel itself was small ($350,000) it had a significant impact on the overall design and livability of our home. Vaulting the ceilings and creating a true ‘great room’ totally transformed our home. Paul and his Project Manager were thoughtful and pragmatic; and as homeowners, we felt like together with KGA, we were part of the team that ultimately developed a fantastically creative solution. They were our true thought partners on the project, and that was key for us. Not only were we impressed with KGA’s inclusive design process but also that Paul, his Project Manager and team members were readily available throughout construction as questions arose. They even stopped by to celebrate once complete! Both my wife and I would highly recommend KGA for any residential project of any size and magnitude.

A big shoutout from us on the incredible efforts by KGA Studio Architects on the MacPhee Residence. You really listened and applied incredible talent and creativity on the project. We are so lucky Jason introduced us to you!!! We couldn’t be happier with the results. We wanted to give special praise for Brent, who has been an absolute pleasure – creative, efficient, results-driven, and passionate. Paul’s genius goes without saying and we appreciate it so much.

Historic Remodel in Louisville, Colorado, by KGA
The task of remodeling and planning an addition to a home that was originally constructed in 1898 seemed exciting but overwhelming. With KGA’s expertise and willingness to work with our desires, our home transitioned and exceeded our expectations. John and his crew eased our decision making and created architectural plans that complimented our goal of keeping the look of a historical home with a wraparound porch and making the addition blend in with a spacious feel and open look inside. We highly recommend John Guilliams and KGA!
